Primero pasos en la conformación de la colección lobos: La primera muestra osteológica de referencia de los siglos XIX y XX en Argentina

Abstract

La Colección Lobos es una nueva colección osteológica que incluye restos humanos óseos de personas que vivieron durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y principios del XX en la ciudad de Lobos (noreste de la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina). Se destaca por ser el único en el país compuesto por individuos de ese rango cronológico. Incluye información documental sobre el nombre, el sexo y la edad de muerte, la nacionalidad, la fecha y causa de la muerte, e incluso en algunos casos, la profesión, el estado civil y los nombres de los padres y del cónyuge. La muestra está compuesta actualmente por 28 individuos de ambos sexos, cuya edad de muerte oscila entre los veintiún y sesenta y nueve años, que nacieron entre 1810 y 1890 y fallecieron entre 1864 y 1925. Varios de ellos fallecieron por enfermedades infecciosas. enfermedades como el cólera, la viruela y la tuberculosis dentro de los numerosos brotes epidémicos que se produjeron durante esa época en la región. Algunas personas son inmigrantes europeos de España, Italia e Irlanda. En este artículo se describen las primeras actividades de recuperación, conservación y análisis, y se proponen perspectivas futuras de investigación tanto para contribuir al desarrollo y perfeccionamiento de metodologías aplicadas en los campos bioarqueológico y forense, como a la reconstrucción del estilo de vida de las personas. que vivió en el nororiente bonaerense durante esa época. Todas estas actividades se centran en el desarrollo de la investigación científica así como en la obligación ética de conservar y proteger los restos mortales de acuerdo con su papel activo en la memoria y patrimonio colectivo de los actuales habitantes de la ciudad.

The Lobos Collection is a new osteological collection that includes skeletal human remains of people who lived during the second half of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century in Lobos city (northeastern Buenos Aires province, Argentina). It stands out for being the only one in the country comprised by individuals from that chronological range. It includes documentary information about the name, the sex and age-at-death, the nationality, date and cause of death, and even in some cases, the profession, marital status and the parent’s and spouse’s names. The sample is currently comprised by 28 individuals of both sexes, whose age-at-death ranges between twenty-one and sixty-nine years old, who were born between 1810 and 1890 and died between 1864 and 1925. Several of them died of infectious diseases such as cholera, smallpox and tuberculosis within the many epidemic outbreaks that occurred during that time in the region. Some individuals are European immigrants from Spain, Italy and Ireland. In this article, the first activities of recovery, conservation and analysis are described, and future research perspectives are proposed both to contribute to the development and refinement of methodologies applied in the bioarcheological and forensic fields, and to the reconstruction of the lifestyle of the people that lived in the northeastern Buenos Aires during that time. All these activities focus on the development of scientific research as well as on the ethical obligation of conserving and protecting the mortal remains according to their active role in the collective memory and patrimony of the current inhabitants of the city.
