Presencia de tumor en el lagarto vivíparo Phymaturus williamsi Lobo, Laspiur & Acosta 2013 (Squamata, Liolaemidae) del centro-oeste de Argentina

Abstract

La neoplasia es el crecimiento anormal de tejido que puede tener diferentes efectos en el huésped. El objetivo de este estudio fue reportar el primer caso de tumor abdominal en el lagarto Phymaturus williamsi del centro-oeste de Argentina. Durante un trabajo de campo realizado en la Quebrada de La Puerta, Departamento de Calingasta, San Juan, se capturó una hembra adulta de P. williamsi con un tumor abdominal en la zona inferior derecha. Se midió la longitud hocico-cloaca de este espécimen y se calculó el volumen del tumor. La longitud hocico-cloaca del individuo capturado fue de 107 mm y el tumor tenía un volumen de 0.183 mm3 . Este hallazgo corresponde al primer reporte de un tumor en un lagarto vivíparo silvestre en Argentina y se suma a otras anomalías neoplásicas que han sido reportadas en otros reptiles presentes en Argentina.

Neoplasm is the abnormal growth of tissue that can have different effects on the host. The objective of this study was to report the first case of abdominal tumor in the lizard Phymaturus williamsi from central-western Argentina. During fieldwork carried out in Quebrada de La Puerta, Department of Calingasta, San Juan, an adult female specimen of P. williamsi with an abdominal tumor in the lower right area was captured. The snout-vent length of this specimen was measured, and the tumor volume was calculated. The snout-vent length of the captured individual was 107 mm and the tumor had a volume of 0.183 mm3 . This finding corresponds to the first report of a tumor in a wild viviparous lizard in Argentina and adds to other neoplastic anomalies that have been reported in other reptiles present in Argentina.
