La nostalgia del orden: Dante Alighieri en la historiografía de José Luis Romero

Abstract

El artículo explora la interpretación histórica que José Luis Romero hace del lugar que Dante ocupa en el desarrollo de lo que él llama «la mentalidad burguesa», que es equivalente a los orígenes y desarrollo del mundo moderno. Romero sostiene que Dante fue un pensador más bien conservador, que se oponía a las nuevas realidades políticas –del nacimiento del Estado-nación hasta el moderno sistema comercial, en otras palabras, el capitalismo– que estaban tomando forma en su propio tiempo. El artículo, por un lado, estudia las principales páginas que Romero dedicó a las ideas de Dante y, por otro lado, analiza su visión general de Dante en el contexto de la recepción argentina del poeta florentino.

The paper explores José Luis Romero’s historical interpretation of the place Dante occupies in the development of what he calls “the bourgeois mentality,” that is tantamount to the origins and development of the modern worldview. Romero argues that Dante was a conservative thinker, opposed to the new political realities—from the birth of the nation-state to the modern commercial system, in other words, Capitalism—that were taking place in his own time. The article, on the one hand, studies the main pages Romero devoted to Dante’s ideas and, on the other hand, analyses his general approach on Dante in the context of the Argentine reception of the Florentine poet.
