La influencia de Duns Escoto en la doctrina de la contingencia asumida por Luis de Molina

Abstract

Los estudios contemporáneos sobre la figura de Juan Duns Escoto han tenido una gran impulso a partir del interés que se ha puesto en la argumentación sobre la libertad de la voluntad. En sus comentarios a las Sentencias, Escoto sostiene que la voluntad es libre en el mismo y por el mismo instante en que actúa, justificando esto con el desarrollo de herramientas lógico-ontológicas.Guillermo de Ockham entabla una fuerte crítica a esta doctrina. Por su parte, prefiere entender la libertad como el poder de la voluntad para sostener o refrenar su acto en un momento posterior.En el renacimiento escolástico, el jesuita Luis de Molina discute el tema de la libertad de la voluntad y precisamente si es libre en el mismo instante en que actúa. Luego de rechazar la propuesta de Ockham, se inclina por la solución de Escoto de manera explícita. El objetivo que nos proponemos en este trabajo consiste en determinar la fidelidad con que Molina asume las ideas del Doctor Sutil, hasta dónde las sigue y dónde las abandona, indagando a su vez una posible explicación de por qué no las asume hasta sus últimas consecuencias.

The contemporary studies on the figure of John Duns Scotus have had a great impulse from the interest that has been put in the argumentation on the freedom of the will. In his comments to the Sentences, Scotus maintains that the will is free in the same and for the same moment in which it acts, justifying this with the development of logical-ontological tools. William of Ockham makes a strong criticism of this doctrine. For his part, he prefers to understand freedom as the power of the will to sustain or restrain his act at a later time. In the scholastic renaissance, the Jesuit Luis de Molina discusses the issue of the freedom of the will and precisely if it is free at the moment it acts. After rejecting Ockham's proposal, he explicitly leans towards the Scotus’ solution. The objective that we propose in this study is to determine the fidelity with which Molina assumes the ideas of the Subtle Doctor, up to where he follows them and where he abandons them, inquiring a possible explanation of why he does not assume them until its last consequences.
