Patologías Histéricas en Buenos Aires: Un acercamiento a los primeros trabajos médicos (1877-1885)

Abstract

Este artículo tiene como objetivo realizar una puntualización para un análisis histórico del abordaje de las histerias en Buenos Aires a fines del siglo XIX. Se pretenden analizar los primeros trabajos publicados en la capital argentina. Los textos considerados incluyen breves folletos sobre histerismo, así como las más tempranas disertaciones médicas. Todos ellos publicados las últimas décadas del siglo XIX. Son pocos los autores que han focalizado su atención sobre estos tópicos (Nouzeilles, 2003; Vallejo, 2012). Por este motivo, y por los aportes que esta investigación puede realizar para comprender la construcción y abordaje de la histeria, estas publicaciones merecen un estudio en profundidad. Gracias al análisis de estas fuentes, se puede llegar a un mejor conocimiento de los orígenes de conceptualizaciones y tratamientos ensayados, así como a un mayor entendimiento de las representaciones sobre el cuerpo histérico y el poder médico ejercido sobre la voluntad de la mujer.

The aim of this article is to provide a guideline for a historical analysis on hysterias in Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century. Throughout this writing we intend to analyze the first works published in the Argentine capital. The texts taken into consideration include brief articles, as well as the earliest medical dissertations. All published during the last decades of the nineteenth century. Few authors have focused their attention on these topics (Nouzeilles, 2003; Vallejo, 2012). For this reason, and for the contributions that this research can make to the development of hysterical pathologies, these publications deserve a deeper study. Due to the analysis of these sources, it is possible to get a better knowledge of the origins of treatments and conceptualizations, as well as to a more complete understanding of the representations about the hysterical body and the medical power over the will of women.
