Extensión universitaria y socialismo: Las lecturas de la Reforma universitaria desde el Ateneo Popular

Abstract

El artículo analiza la relación entre socialismo, extensión universitaria y movimiento estudiantil a partir de una comparación entre la posición oficial del Partido Socialista frente a la Reforma universitaria y la posición de los socialistas que formaron parte del Ateneo Popular (fundado por Enrique Del valle Iberlucea y Alicia Moreau). Mostraremos que, frente a la lectura liberal y anticlerical de Juan B. Justo, los miembros del Ateneo Popular interpretaron la Reforma universitaria en clave obrera y como parte de un movimiento de renovación universitaria que, desde años atrás, buscaba incorporar a los trabajadores a la universidad mediante proyectos de educación popular. El Ateneo Popular y su órgano de difusión, la revista Humanidad Nueva, reunieron a un conjunto de jóvenes que apoyarían a Del Valle Iberlucea en su posición tercerista y que emprenderían un proceso de radicalización del movimiento estudiantil.

e article analyzes the relationship between socialism, university extension and the student movement based on a comparison between the official position of the Socialist Party regarding the University Reform and the position of the socialists who were part of the Popular Athenaeum (founded by Enrique Del Valle Iberlucea and Alicia Moreau). We will show that, in contrast to the liberal and anticlerical reading of Juan B. Justo, the members of the Popular Athenaeum interpreted the University Reform in a working-class way and as part of a movement for university renewal that for years had sought to incorporate workers into the university through popular education projects. e popular Athenaeum and its dissemination organ, the Humanidad Nueva magazine, brought together a group of young people who would support Del Valle Iberlucea in his third-party position and who would undertake a process of radicalization of the student movement.
