Escribe como científico y no lo respaldan las fuentes disponibles: Víctor Mercante y los problemas educacionales (1890-1911)

Abstract

Diversos estudios de biopolítica exploran la etapa llamada de la Argentina moderna, desde 1890 hasta 1916. En este lapso se cristalizan un Estado-nación y Estados provinciales con recursos suficientes en sus arcas para definir políticas de gobierno y, de este modo, intervenir en el espacio y en la población. En el ámbito educativo, se dictan leyes de instrucción primaria, y se las intentan aplicar. Además, por primera vez, los mismos organismos estatales necesitan y convocan a educacionistas en su sistema de instrucción pública y en cargos de gobierno. En este marco, me interesa estudiar a Víctor Mercante, educador que forma parte de espacios de gobierno, tiene cargos en sedes educativas y en el poder legislativo. Los estudios en torno a Mercante tienen diferencias de perspectivas y enfoques entre sí, pero todos concluyen en lo mismo: Mercante expone su concepción educativa e investigaciones como un científico. Exploro su intervención puntual en 1911, año del homenaje a Sarmiento en el centenario de su nacimiento, donde los educacionistas se sienten convocados para hablar del homenajeado y de la educación Argentina. Mi objetivo es evidenciar que, sin duda, Mercante escribe como científico y no lo respaldan las fuentes disponibles.

Various biopolitical studies explore the so-called stage of modern Argentina from 1890-1916. In this period, a nation-state and provincial-state crystallized with sufficient resources in their coffers to define government policies and, this way, intervene in space and in the population. In the educational sphere, primary education laws are enacted, and attempts are made to apply them. In addition, for the first time, the same state agencies need and call for educators in their public education system and in government positions. In this framework, I am interested in studying Víctor Mercante, an educator who is part of government spaces, has positions in educational centers and in the legislative power. The studies around Mercante have different perspectives and approaches, but they all conclude in the same way: Mercante exposes his educational conception and research as a scientist. I explore his punctual intervention in 1911, the year of the tribute to Sarmiento on the centenary of his birth, where educationists feel summoned to talk about the honoree and Argentine education. My goal is to show that without a doubt Mercante writes as a scientist and is not supported by available sources.
