El trabajo etnográfico con expedientes en el campo de las burocracias judiciales

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es reflexionar sobre el trabajo etnográfico con expedientes en el ámbito de las burocracias judiciales. Para ello, parto de dos situaciones de campo que refieren a dos momentos diferentes en mi trayectoria como investigadora y que son reconstruidos desde caminos opuestos: en un caso, un “hallazgo” fortuito y relatos familiares de mi infancia me llevan al encuentro con un expediente archivado en el Museo de la Morgue Judicial; en el otro, inversamente, el punto de origen es una causa judicial emblemática por crímenes de lesa humanidad que me conduce a algunos de los relatos, rumores y testimonios que le dieron origen. Propongo el análisis de ambas situaciones porque entiendo que las mismas permiten problematizar y discutir las dificultades y especificidades que presenta el trabajo con expedientes al tiempo que nos invita a pensar sobre el material con el que están “hechos” los mismos.

This article aims to reflect about ethnographic work with court files in the realm of judicial bureaucracies. In order to achieve this, I start off by using two field situations that refer to two different moments in my career as a researcher and have been rebuilt from opposite paths: in one case, a fortuitous "finding" and family stories from my childhood bring me to the encounter of a filed proceeding in the Judicial Morgue Museum; in the second one, inversely, the starting point was an emblematic court case for crimes against humanity that lead me to some narrations, rumors and testimonials which originate it. I propose to analyze both situations because I understand that they allow us to problematize and discuss the difficulties and specificities that work with files introduces, at the same time that it invites us to think about the material used for its elaboration.
