Representaciones de la “imagen” de Esopo en publicaciones de fábulas grecolatinas recientes

Abstract

La “imagen” de Esopo se ha cristalizado en diferentes textualidades des-de la antigüedad clásica como una figura asociada a la literatura “popular” y, por tanto, las colecciones de fábulas que le son atribuidas transitaron (y aun transitan) una compleja historia de transmisión y transformación hasta nuestros días. En dicha historia, la figura de Esopo como fabulista se modaliza en función de cada contexto sociohistórico en el cual sus fábulas se recrean. La noción de “imagen” (Lefevere, 1992) nos permite pensar las representaciones que cada época de la humanidad, a través de las reescrituras de textos canónicos, construye de cada escritor, así como también entablar un diálogo entre las antiguas representaciones escultóricas, las descripciones en los textos grecolatinos y las ilustraciones de Esopo que en su mayoría acompañan las publicaciones de fábulas recientes. Proponemos en este trabajo abordar dos antologías atribuidas a Esopo publicadas en Argentina: Esopo. Fábulas (2002, Ed. Página 12) y Fábulas y antifábulas de Graciela Repún y Enrique Melantoni (2013, Ed. Uranito) porque conforman en sí mismas un ‘corpus’ de análisis en cuanto presentan a Esopo como “personaje” y “narrador”. Nuestro objetivo es describir las operaciones textuales y paratextuales utilizadas en la construcción de Esopo como personaje/narrador y/o autor de fábulas en dichas publicaciones para problematizar las relaciones del género de la fábula grecolatina con los géneros actuales de la litera-tura destinada a niños y jóvenes y el material didáctico.

The “image” of Aesop has been crystallized in different texts since classical antiquity as a figure associated with “popular” literature and, therefore, the collections of fables attributed to him went through (and still go through) a complex history of transmission and transformation. In this history, the figure of Aesop as a fabulist has been modalized according to each sociohistorical context in which his fables were recreated. The notion of “image” (Lefevere, 1992) refers to the representations that each era of humanity, through the rewriting of canonical texts, builds of each writer. Also, the notion establishes a dialogue between the ancient sculptural representations, the descriptions in the Graeco-Latin texts and the illustrations of Aesop that most publications of recent fables contain. In this paper we propose to analyze two books of fables attributed to Aesop published in Argentina: Aesop. Fábulas (Ed. Página 12) and Fábulas y antifabulas by Graciela Repún and Enrique Melantoni (2013, Ed. Uranito) because they themselves make up a ‘corpus’ of analysis as they present Aesop as “character” and “narrator”. We aim to describe the textual and paratextual operations used in the construction of Aesop as a character/ narrator and/or author of fables in these publications in order to problematize the relations of the Greco-Latin fable genre with the current genres of children’s literature and didactic materials.
