Una lectura de La Australia argentina, de Roberto Payró

Abstract

Este artículo analiza dos ejes centrales que atraviesan las crónicas escritas por Roberto Payró, para La Nación, bajo el título: La Australia argentina. En primer lugar, indaga la figura del escritor periodista como mediador entre los textos de la tradición del viaje al “fin del mundo” y el público lector porteño. Enviado por el mismo periódico, Payró recorre diferentes puntos de la región, mira, escribe, pero también recupera informes, transcribe diálogos, lee, construye un listado de fuentes, y discute con figuras de autoridad como Darwin. En una segunda instancia, el trabajo recupera ciertos momentos en los que irrumpe el paisaje y la mirada contemplativa en el espacio de la crónica. En efecto, a contrapelo del impulso documental que caracteriza a esta producción periodística, en algunas notas, el escritor se fascina con el paisaje y, en el ejercicio de la mirada, surgen derivas que integran referencias plásticas al relato.

This article analyzes two central issues that run through the chronicles written by Roberto Payró for La Nación under the title La Australia Argentina. In the first place, it asks inquire into the figure of the journalistic writer as a mediator between the texts of the tradition of the journey to “the end of the world” and the Buenos Aires reading public. Sent by the same newspaper, Payró travels through different parts of the region, searches, writes, but also retrieves reports, transcribes dialogues, reads, builds a list of sources and debate with authority figures such as Darwin. In a second instance, the work recovers certain moments in which the landscape and the contemplative gaze burst into the space of the chronicle. In fact, contrary to the documentary impulse that characterizes this periodical production, in some notes, the writer shows himself fascinated by the landscape and derivatives emerge from the exercise of the gaze, that integrating plastic references to the story.
