Sentencias oraculares y legitimidad en Heródoto

Abstract

La obra de Heródoto constituye una de las principales fuentes para reconstruir no sólo la importancia de las sedes oraculares en la Grecia antigua sino el modo en que eran representadas por los griegos. El artículo argumenta que Heródoto elabora la legitimidad y veracidad de las sentencias adivinatorias oraculares a través de diferentes operaciones simbólicas que resuelven las distancias entre la adivinación de los oráculos y las acciones de los sujetos que los consultan. Las cuatro operaciones descriptas permiten comprender el sentido dado a la capacidad categorizadora de los oráculos, la importancia de estas instituciones y sus relaciones con las formas de causalidad pensadas por Heródoto.

The work of Herodotus constitutes one of the main sources to reconstruct not only the importance of the oracular seats in ancient Greece, but also the way in which they were represented by the Greeks. The article argues that Herodotus elaborates the legitimacy and veracity of the oracular divination sentences through different symbolic operations that resolve the distances between the divination of the oracles and the actions of the subjects who consult them. The four operations described allow us to understand the meaning given to the categorizing capacity of oracles, the importance of these institutions and their relationships with the forms of causality thought by Herodotus.
