Teatro, trabajo y afectos en las compañías-familias argentinas de los Podestá durante finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX

Abstract

La familia fundadora, en lo que refiere a la actividad teatral en Argentina, es la de los Podestá. Su árbol genealógico alberga más de cien miembros (la mayoría artistas) y abarca el arco temporal desde fines del siglo XIX al siglo XX. En el presente artículo, nos concentramos en el estudio de aquello que hemos denominado ‘compañías-familias’, categoría que responde y evidencia los vínculos de sangre establecidos entre sus integrantes y los contratos matrimoniales producidos también con artistas del campo artístico local. A partir de un estudio que contempla las condiciones estéticas, laborales y la incidencia de los vínculos afectivos, tanto para sus formaciones como para sus rupturas, nos enfocamos en el análisis de las compañías-familias formadas en Buenos Aires por Jerónimo Podestá y Pablo Podestá entre 1880 y 1920.

The Podestás are the founding family in what refers to theatrical activity in Argentina. Its family tree houses more than a hundred members (mostly artists) and covers the time span from the end of the 19th century to the 20th century. In this article, we focus on the study of what we have called ‘companies-families’, a category that responds to and evidences the blood ties established between its members and the marriage contracts also produced with artists from the local artistic field. From a study that contemplates the aesthetic, labor conditions and the incidence of affective ties, for their formations and for their ruptures, we center on the analysis of the companies-families formed in Buenos Aires by Jerónimo Podestá and Pablo Podestá between 1880 and 1920.
