Espacios Imperiales. Sintaxis espacial y colonialismo en el Viejo Sangayaico, Andes Sur-Centrales (1000 DC - 1615 DC)

Abstract

Los procesos de colonización usualmente modifican a los grupos sociales que participan en ella, especialmente al colonizado. Estas formas de relacionarse entre los distintos grupos tienden a dejar su impronta en la vida cotidiana del grupo dominado, tanto en los aspectos materiales como inmateriales. En los Andes, dicho proceso de colonización fue variado en tiempo y lugar. En nuestro caso, el sitio arqueológico Viejo Sangayaico (departamento de Huancavelica, Perú) fue afectado por dos grandes imperios (Inca y España). En este trabajo nos proponemos analizar si existieron continuidades y/o rupturas en las políticas implementadas entre un Imperio y el otro en el sitio. Para ello nos centraremos en las modificaciones de las formas de organización espacial del asentamiento. Estos cambios en el patrón de diseño del sitio serán trabajados a través del método de sintaxis espacial. Dicha herramienta de análisis espacial nos permitirá observar las relaciones entre los grupos locales con los distintos imperios.

The processes of colonization usually modify the social groups that engage with it, especially the colonized. The means by which different groups relate to each other mark the daily life of the dominated group in both material and non-material ways. In the Andes, this process of colonization varied across time and place. In our case-study, the Viejo Sangayaico archaeological site (department of Huancavelica, Peru) was affected by two large empires (Inca and Spanish). In this article we analyze whether there were continuities and/ or ruptures in imperial politics between one empire and the other at this site. In so doing, we focus on modifications in the types of spatial organization present at the settlement. These changes in the site design patterning will be recreated using the spatial syntax method. This spatial analysis tool will allow us to observe the relationships between local groups and the different empires.
