Cine (en) idish: Imágenes de una cultura arrasada

Abstract

El cine (en) idish tuvo un breve apogeo en la primera mitad del siglo XX en la Unión Soviética, Polonia y Estados Unidos, y se caracterizó –entre otras cuestiones– por poseer una fuerte vinculación y dependencia tanto con el teatro como con la literatura. Su producción terminó abruptamente luego de la Segunda Guerra Mundial quedando olvidados la mayoría de sus títulos.Este artículo se pregunta cómo verlo y analizarlo hoy en día ya que el cine (en) idish resulta ser un importante vector de los imaginarios como también de los temores de aquella época. De este modo, el cine (en) idish resulta ser un documento válido no solo para estudiar la cultura idish sino también las tensiones en el judaísmo de aquel momento.

Yiddish cinema had a brief heyday in the first half of the 20th century in the Soviet Union, Poland and the United States, and was characterized –among other things– by its strong links and dependence on both theater and literature. Its production ended abruptly after World War II and most of his titles were forgotten. This paper asks how to see and analyze it today, since Yiddish cinema is an important vector of the imaginaries as well as the fears of that time. Thus, Yiddish cinema is a valid document not only to study Yiddish culture but also the tensions in the Judaism of that period.
