Imágenes técnicas de los cielos del Sur a fines del siglo XIX: Trazos y fotos desde la Argentina

Abstract

En este artículo pretendemos analizar dos trabajos científicos internacionales realizados en la Argentina (el Pasaje de Venus en 1882 y la Carte du Ciel a fines del siglo XIX) que requirieron de la elaboración de imágenes técnicas de los cielos australes, ya fueran estos registros gráficos, fotografías o dibujos. Proponemos un análisis centrado en el uso de las imágenes técnicas como fuentes para la historia de las ciencias. Asimismo, enfocaremos las instrucciones y consideraciones que se hicieron sobre estas imágenes antes, durante y después de su producción. Nuestro objetivo es comprender el contexto de producción y circulación de estas imágenes, así como la transformación de sus funciones en la producción astronómica de la época.

In this article we intend to analyze two international scientific works carried out in Argentina (the Passage of Venus in 1882 and the Carte du Ciel at the end of the 19th century) that required the elaboration of technical images of the southern skies, whether they were graphic records, photos or drawings. We propose an analysis focused on the use of technical images as sources for the history of science. We will also focus on the instructions and considerations that were made about these images before, during and after their production. Our goal is to understand the context of production and circulation of these images, as well as the transformation of their functions in the astronomical production of the time.
