Resumen
The processes of stylization and schematism, which suppose a simplification and alteration of the figured motifs, have been scarcely studied in the pre-Columbian art of the Lowlands of South America. This work aims to delve into these mechanisms through the analysis of a sample of 34 figurative ceramic append-ages from the Las Tejas San Nicolás 1 site (Entre Ríos province, Northeast Argentina). Methodological criteria are provided that allow discussing these processes in three-dimensional representations, which in turn helps to taxonomically identify the simplified zoomorphic motifs. From the analysis carried out, it appears that birds of prey constitute the most represented animals in the site, registering an emphasis on the beak-head unit, which acts as a synecdoche of the figured animal. Stylization-schematization patterns would imply the use of understood visual codes, based on socially established and accepted conventions.
