This double issue of Gender & Development, ‘A Gender-Responsive Recovery: EnsuringWomen’s Decent Work and Transforming Care Provision’, is accordingly devoted toinvestigating the COVID-19 crisis impacts in more detail, with contributions that providegendered insights into the implications of the pandemic. The focus of many articlesin this issue is on women and girls who have been particularly hit due to the restrictionsimposed by lockdowns and the contraction of economic activity: those involved in informalwork, such as domestic workers, street vendors, waste workers, and sanitation workers; frontline health workers; and all of them also as unpaid carers within householdsand communities.
