Los límites de los liderazgos: Argentina y Brasil en perspectiva histórica

Abstract

A partir del institucionalismo histórico, este artículo procura explicar las diferencias entre los estilos de los liderazgos presidenciales en Argentina y Brasil tras la restauración de sus democracias. En concreto, el de Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) –“nomilitarista”– y Jair Bolsonaro (2019-actualidad) –“militarista”–. Sugiere que las ideas, valores y comportamientos heredados de coyunturas críticas (la fundación de los Estados Nación y las transiciones democráticas) marcan un umbral respecto de lo que es socialmente admitido en cada país y, consecuentemente, contribuyen a moldear los estilos que los líderes pueden adoptar si quieren conseguir amplios apoyos sociales, sobre todo si se entiende al liderazgo como un tipo particular de relación social.

From the historical institutionalism perspective, this article attempts to explain the differences between the styles of presidential leadership in Argentina and in Brazil after the restoration of their democracies. Specifically, that of Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) – “non-militarist” – and Jair Bolsonaro (2019-present) militarist”–. It suggests that the ideas, values and behaviors inherited from critical junctures (the founding of Nation States and democratic transitions) mark a threshold to what is socially admitted in each country and, consequently, contribute to shape the styles that leaders can adopt if they want to gain broad social support, especially if leadership is understand as a particular type of social relationship.
