La metáfora del desarrollo en las ciencias sociales y sus riesgos epistemológicos

Abstract

El presente trabajo busca realizar una breve reflexión epistemológica acerca del papel queha detentado la metáfora del desarrollo en el surgimiento de las ciencias sociales en Europay América Latina. Para ello, se cotejarán una serie de perspectivas metodológicas que vandesde el racionalismo aplicado hasta los enfoques relativos a la colonialidad del saber. Paraabordar estos tópicos el trabajo se divide en tres partes. En el primer apartado se analiza-rá el potencial de este concepto para la formulación de hipótesis en la investigación social apartir del establecimiento de analogías provenientes de otras disciplinas. Luego, en el se-gundo apartado se abordarán los riesgos que subyacen a esta empresa en ausencia de unejercicio de control epistemológico que permita explicitar los presupuestos axiológicos quesubyacen a la noción de desarrollo. En el tercer apartado nos enfocaremos en la dimensióncolonial del concepto, entendiéndola como una de las dimensiones normativas más relevantesque subyacen a la enunciación del mismo, tanto en contextos académicos como políticos. Porúltimo, ofreceremos una serie de consideraciones finales donde problematizaremos las posi-bilidades y los límites de la metáfora del desarrollo al interior de nuestras disciplinas.

This paper seeks to make a brief epistemological reflection on the role that the development metaphor has played in the emergence of social sciences in Europe and Latin America. To do this, a series of methodological perspectives will be collated, ranging from applied rationalism to approaches related to the coloniality of knowledge. To address these topics, the work is divided into three parts. In the first section, the potential of this concept for the formulation of hypotheses in social research based on the establishment of analogies from other disciplines will be analyzed. Then, the second section will address the risks that underlie this company in the absence of an exercise of epistemological control that makes it possible to make explicit the axiological assumptions underlying the notion of development. In the third section we will focus on the colonial dimension of the concept, understanding it as one of the most relevant normative dimensions underlying its enunciation, both in academic and political contexts. Finally, we will offer a series of final considerations where we will problematize the possibilities and limits of the metaphor of development within our disciplines.
