Mujeres en el teatro judío de Buenos Aires: las directoras y activistas del Teatro IFT

Abstract

El IFT (Idisher Folks Teater ? Teatro Popular Judío) se crea en 1932 como el primer teatro independiente judío de Buenos Aires. Ya desde sus primeros años esta compañía teatral estuvo integrada por mujeres que ocuparon roles artísticos como también funciones de liderazgo y gestión. Este trabajo se propone por tanto, visibilizar la experiencia de estas mujeres y dar cuenta de su papel en la configuración del teatro judío de Buenos Aires y especialmente del Teatro IFT. En este sentido, partimos de la hipótesis de que las mujeres tuvieron una participación sumamente relevante en las instituciones culturales y teatrales judías, donde se destacaron como actrices, pero también como directoras y líderes activistas, roles que en esa época estaban habitualmente ocupados por hombres.

The IFT (Idisher Folks Teater – Jewish People’s Theater) was created in 1932 as the first independent Jewish theater of Buenos Aires. Since its foundation, women had an important presence in the company, mostly in artistic roles but also as leaders and activists. This essay aims to explore these women’s experience and the part they took in the configuration of the Jewish theater of Buenos Aires, focusing especially in the case of the IFT Theater. This article argues that women had prominent participation in Jewish cultural and theatrical institutions, where women worked as actresses but also as directors and leaders, roles that at the time were usually occupied by men.
