La estructura trifuncional indoeuropea en la contrautopía Amadís-Sergas

Abstract

En este artículo se intenta poner de manifiesto la importancia de la estructura trifuncional indoeuropea, tal como la postula Georges Dumézil, en la construcción de la trama y el sentido utópico del ciclo caballeresco configurado por el Amadís de Gaula y las Sergas de Esplandián de Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo. Las tres funciones ideológicas indoeuropeas no sólo determinan las virtudes particulares transmitidas a Esplandián por sus tres amas, sino que también proporcionan una pauta diacrónica para el establecimiento de los tres pasos o etapas del desarrollo histórico y utópico de la caballería según las postula el texto.

This article attempts to highlight the importance of the Indo-European trifunctional structure–as postulated by Georges Dumézil–in the shaping of the plot and the utopian meaning of the chivalric cycle formed by Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo’s Amadís de Gaula and Sergas de Esplan dián. The three ideological Indo-European functions not only determine the particular virtues transmitted to Esplandián by his three wet nurses, but also furnish a diachronic pattern in order to establish the three steps or phases of historical and utopian development of chivalry according to the text.
