La salud y la enfermedad desde una perspectiva sociocultural en la primera mitad del siglo XX

Abstract

Los historiadores sociales de fines del siglo XX colocaron en el centro de sus preocupaciones nuevos temas y enfoques, entre ellos, los problemas vinculados con la denominada cuestión social. A ella se la define como el conjunto de problemas sociales surgidos como consecuencia de la industrialización, la urbanización, la inmigración entre los que se encontraban los conflictos del trabajo, la pobreza, el pauperismo, la marginalidad y la enfermedad, que restituyeron el protagonismo de sujetos olvidados como los enfermos, los locos, los delincuentes, entre otros. Las enfermedades presentes en la sociedad plantean un nuevo objeto de reflexión histórica que proporciona una ventana a la realidad social. Analizar la trilogía enfermedad-salud-atención de manera integrada es conocer un aspecto que explica la problemática social. Las respuestas a los problemas sociales provinieron, a comienzos del siglo XX, de la sociedad civil y del Estado, surgiendo instituciones de asistencia social que actuaban de manera combinada. El presente artículo aborda el tema de la enfermedad-salud-atención y las respuestas a esta problemática por parte del Estado cordobés durante el período 1900-1940, buscando reconstruir cómo la enfermedad nos permite develar las condiciones de vida material y cultural donde emergieron y el proceso de constitución del Estado y la ciudadanía sociales, a partir de las continuidades, cambios y transformaciones que se fueron manifestando en el campo sanitario.

The social historians of ends of the 20th century placed in the center of his worries new topics and approaches, between them, the problems linked with the social question called. It is defi ned as the set of social problems arisen as consequence of the industrialization, the urbanization, the immigration between those who were the confl icts of the work, the poverty, the marginality, the disease, that they returned the protagonism of subjects forgotten as the patients, the madmen, the delinquents between others. The diseases in the society, raise a new historical object of refl ection that provides a window to the social reality. To analyze the trilogy disease - health- service of an integrated way is to know an aspect that explains the social problematics. The response to the social problems came from the civil society and from the State, arising institutions of social assistance that were acting in a combined way. The present article approaches the topic of the disease- health- service and the response to this problematics for the State during the period 1900-1940 in Córdoba, seeking to reconstruct how the disease allows us to show the conditions of material and cultural life where they emerged and the social process of constitution of the Social State and the social citizenship, from the continuities, changes and transformations that were demonstrating in the sanitary field.
