Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca. Gustos y olvidos: legalidad, viaje y escritura

Abstract

El presente trabajo busca analizar los circuitos de lectura de las obras de Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, interrogar sus recorridos y/o sus obstáculos. Para esto se analiza el aspecto material del libro, es decir las apetencias del lector, junto con las selecciones del autor y las decisiones editoriales que propician el éxito o el olvido de un texto. Se trabaja aquí principalmente la edición conjunta de Naufragios y Comentarios, publicada en Valladolid en 1555. El privilegio que detenta el primero por sobre el segundo texto de este libro, en lo que hace a la lógica de edición y lectura a través del tiempo, es uno de los interrogantes que impulsan el artículo y que se busca responder. Para ello, se aborda la problemática legalidad, política y escritura en la crónica sobre el Río de la Plata, con el objeto de dilucidar si es la impronta legal que presenta el relato –la cual responde tanto al contexto personal de Cabeza de Vaca como al imperial en el que se publica- la razón de la desatención que ha marcado la "suerte" de este último texto.

The present essay aims toanalyze the reading circuits of Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca ́s work, questioningits routes and/or its obstacles. For this, we analyze the material aspect of the book, that is, the taste of the readeralongwith the author ́s choicesand the editorial decisions that lead to the successor the forgetting of a text. Here, wespecificallywork on the joint edition of Naufragiosy Comentarios, published in Valladolidin 1555. The privilege that the first text of this bookreceivedover the secondone, regardingits edition and reading logic throughtime, is one of the questions that articulate this essay andthat we try to answer. Forthis, we deal with the problem of legality, politics and writing inthis River Plate chronicle, with the purpose of elucidatingif the legal mark that this story presents –which responds to the personal context of Cabeza de Vaca and to the imperial context in which the text was published-is the reason for the lack of attentionthat has marked its “luck.”
