La Argentina frente al Bicentenario: un debate inconcluso

Abstract

Cuando el 25 de mayo de 1810 se inició el camino formal para la independencia de España, el proceso de construcción identitaria de aquello que hoy conocemos como la nación Argentina no era más que una ausencia que habría de ser llenada y disuelta de contenido una y otra vez. Desde entonces, un largo y sinuoso camino hemos recorrido. Sin embargo, aún quedan pendientes infinitas preguntas y respuestas, deudas y disputas, que no han podido ser resueltas y requieren de nuevas interpretaciones que abran novedosos, y a veces tenebrosos, caminos para el incierto porvenir. En primer lugar, cuando hablamos de independencia o emancipación, ¿nos estamos refiriendo sólo a una libertad formal de la España monárquica? Si no es así, ¿qué condiciones hacen posible esa emancipación? Nos proponemos realizar un breve recorrido por estos largos y turbulentos doscientos años de historia. Colocaremos el eje en ciertas características generales asumidas en el último siglo, tomando como hilo conductor la cuestión de la emancipación política, económica y social de los hombres y mujeres de nuestra Patria. Incluiremos, además, el abordaje concatenado de dos nociones que consideramos cruciales para entender nuestro pasado, presente y futuro como son los significantes democracia y ciudadanía. Pretendemos, de este modo, brindar algunas herramientas heurísticas que, alejadas de todo ideal objetivista y esencialista en la comprensión de la historia, contribuyan a pensar y a repensar la sociedad en la que vivimos y, de este modo, a construir y redefinir una praxis política que apunte a transformar el futuro, a partir de las (re)interpretaciones de nuestro pasado y nuestro presente.

When on the 25th of May of 1810 the formal path to independence from Spain was taken, the process of identity building of what is today known as the Argentine nation was not more than an absence that would be filled and emptied once and again. Since then, we have walked a long and winding road. However, there are still questions and answers, doubts and debates, which have not been solved and ask for new interpretations which can open new roads to the uncertain future. Firstly, when we talk about independence or emancipation, are we talking only about formal freedom from monarchical Spain? If this is not the case, what conditions make that emancipation possible? We aim at making a brief revision of these two hundred years of history. We focus on some general traits of the last century, taking as the main line the question of political, economic and social emancipation of men and women of our Patria. We take two notions that are crucial to understand our past, present and future, such as democracy and citizenship. We seek for building some heuristic tools that, far from any objectivistic and essentialistic ideal in the understanding of history, contribute for the thinking of the society we live in and for the building and redefinition of a political praxis that aim at the transformation of the future by using our reinterpretations of our past and our present.
