Historias de pioneros: configuración y surgimiento de un repertorio histórico-identitario en la costa atlántica bonaerense

Abstract

Las “historias de pioneros” suelen ser uno de los modos en que diversas comunidades –en especial a nivel local y regional– construyen narraciones sobre su pasado. Estas narraciones sedimentan repertorios que pueden y suelen ser movilizados con diversos propósitos identitarios y morales. Sobre esa base, el objetivo del presente texto será analizar el proceso de configuración de una narración histórico-identitaria de ese tipo en la localidad de Villa Gesell, en la Costa Atlántica de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. En primer lugar se analizarán los medios y recursos utilizados en la producción de un discurso canónico sobre la historia de la ciudad y su Fundador, así como algunos de los efectos que de ellos se siguen. Seguidamente, se dará cuenta de las circunstancias del surgimiento y circulación de estos relatos, para procurar iluminar el papel que juegan en la delimitación de una comunidad moral que en distintos momentos se percibe a sí misma como objeto de amenaza.

"Pioneer stories" are one of the usual ways in which local communities build up narratives about their past. These narratives further congeal into repertoires that can be – and usually are – put to the service of diverse moral and identity-building ends. The goal of the following paper is to present and analyze the making of a historical narrative of the aforementioned kind in Villa Gesell, on the Atlantic seaboard of the province of Buenos Aires (Argentina). First, we will analyze the rhetorical means, tropes and resources involved in the production of a canonical discourse on the history of the town and the biography of its Founder, as well as some of the effects following from them. Then, we will present the circumstances surrounding the origin and circulation of said narratives, in order to bring light onto their role in the process of boundary-making of a moral community that perceives itself to be under threat.
