Arqueología Argentina: Pampa y Patagonia en perspectiva histórica

Abstract

Este trabajo presenta de manera panorámica, la historia de arqueología de Pampa-Patagonia en el marco del desarrollo disciplinar en Argentina. Nuestro objetivo es explicar dicha historia de manera contextual, es decir teniendo en cuenta la trama social, económica, política y cultural que subyace al desarrollo disciplinar, y que da forma a dicho proceso. Porque partimos de la hipótesis que el marco socio-histórico de un país, y por qué no mundial, modela el desarrollo de la ciencia. Nos detendremos en el análisis crítico-reflexivo de la historia de las investigaciones de Pampa-Patagonia, dado que ambos sectores no sólo representan un elevado porcentaje de los estudios arqueológicos en nuestro país, sino también por la relevancia de los análisis que allí se realizaron. Por todo ello nuestro recorrido arranca en lo que hemos considerado los albores de la arqueología naciónal -en el siglo XVI-, y termina con el estado de las investigaciones a finales del siglo XX. Debido a que consideramos, metodológicamente hablando, que extendernos hacia adelante y llegar hasta nuestros días, no nos permite tomar la distancia necesaria que toda construcción y/o estudio histórico necesita para lograr la objetividad que anhelamos.

This paper presents a panorama of the history of archaeological research in Pampa-Patagonia within the general framework of the discipline in Argentine. Furthermore, it aims at explaining its development contextually, that is, considering the social, economic, political and cultural background of the research area. Based on the hypothesis that the socio-historical background of any country -or rather worldwide- shapes the development of Science, we will focus on a criticalreflexive analysis of the history of research in Pampa and Patagonia considering both the high representation of these geographical areas in the overall archaeological studies carried out in Argentina and their signifycance throughout time. In this way, our path starts in what we consider the dawn of national archaeology-in the 16th century- and finishes with the assessment of research at the end of the 20th century, as we consider, from a methodological perspective, that a progression to more recent times will not allow the necessary detachment that any historical construction and/or study demands for the desired objectivity.
