El Episcopado argentino, el "destape" y la amenaza a los valores tradicionales, 1981-1985

Abstract

Desde que el gobierno militar instalado en la Argentina en 1976 comenzó a mostrar signos de agotamiento, los obispos observaron a la cultura popular con especial preocupación. Entendieron que, ante el horizonte democrático que se abría, se intentaba imponer cambios en las formas de expresión del pueblo y desde esa certidumbre se erigieron en custodios del sustrato cultural amenazado. Las autoridades democráticas electas en octubre de 1983, los medios de comunicación, los empresarios del espectáculo, los intelectuales y los artistas estuvieron bajo la lupa de los obispos, quienes los evaluaron a partir de una visión unitaria de la cultura renuente a asimilar los nuevos aires del pluralismo democrático. En este artículo se recorren las intervenciones episcopales entre el final de la dictadura y el primer período del gobierno de Raúl Alfonsín para identificar las estrategias desplegadas por los obispos con el objetivo de garantizar la permanencia de los valores católicos en un escenario social que no les ofrecía certidumbres.

Since the military government installed in Argentina in 1976 began to show signs of exhaustion, the bishops looked at popular culture with special concern. They understood that, given the democratic horizon that opened, it was attempted to impose changes in the forms of expression of the people and from that certainty they erected themselves in custodians of the threatened cultural substrate. Democratic authorities elected in October 1983, media, entertainment entrepreneurs, intellectuals and artists were under the scrutiny of the bishops, who evaluated them from a unitary view of culture reluctant to assimilate the new winds of democratic pluralism. This article will go over the episcopal interventions between the end of the dictatorship and the first period of government of Raúl Alfonsín to identify the strategies used by the bishops in order to ensure the continuance of Catholic values in a social setting that not offered certainties.
