“Según la curandera era un mal el que nos habían hecho”…Estigma, poder y subalternidad: La noción de daño dentro del curanderismo

Abstract

El presente trabajo forma parte de una investigación mayor que se orienta a explicar las dinámicas de reproducción y transformación de una práctica terapéutica no hegemónica: el curanderismo, en el área urbana del Gran San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, en la actualidad. Desde la perspectiva antropológica las categorías de salud y enfermedad exceden lo estrictamente biológico para imbricarse e implicarse en aspectos culturales. La enfermedad no es sólo un mero conjunto de síntomas y disfunciones orgánicas, sino un conjunto de palabras, experiencias, sentimientos y creencias sobre el padecimiento que tienen origen en la interacción social. En relación al curanderismo en el Gran San Miguel de Tucumán podemos pensar que, uno de los motivos que explican su reproducción –no obstante su carácter subalterno- es que posee concepciones de la enfermedad y la sanación que se articulan directamente con un orden espiritual y moral. En este trabajo me propongo avanzar sobre uno de aquellos aspectos que aparece mencionado de modo recurrente en las entrevistas efectuadas a curanderos y personas que acuden a los mismos para recuperar su salud: la noción de daño. Se observa que la noción de daño conlleva una carga peyorativa entre los entrevistados, pero que, sin embargo, estos afirman que existe y se curan del mismo. El daño adquiere distintas formas dentro de la práctica del curanderismo; resultando estas el objeto del presente análisis.

This work is part of a larger study that aims to explain the dynamics of reproduction and transformation of a non-hegemonic therapeutic practice: healers in the urban area of Greater San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina, at present time. From an anthropological perspective, the categories of health and disease goes beyond the strictly biological and become involved with cultural aspects. The disease is not just a set of symptoms and organ dysfunction, but a set of words, experiences, feelings and beliefs about the affliction that are originate in the social interaction. In relation with the healers in the Greater San Miguel de Tucumán we might think that one of the reasons for their reproduction -despite its subordinate aspect- is that the concepts of illness and healing are directly related to a spiritual and moral order. In this paper I intend to go on one of those aspects that is frequently mentioned in the interviews of the healers and people who come to them to regain their health: the notion of damage. It is observed that the notion of damage has a pejorative connotation among the interviewees, but, however, they claim that exist and they look for a cure. The damage takes different forms within the practice of healers resulting the subject of this analysis.
