Escritores y estado en el Centenario: apogeo y dispersión de la literatura nativista argentina

Abstract

En el marco de la nueva alianza entre escritores y Estado que se fragua en el campo literario argentino hacia el centenario de la revolución de mayo, la posición nativista para una literatura regional-nacional, forjada en las dos últimas décadas del siglo XIX, se constituye en la piedra basal para mediar y negociar los intereses de un Estado oligárquico que ve amenazada su hegemonía y las necesidades de los escritores nacionales que aspiran a una autonomía profesional que el mercado aún no garantiza, así como las contradicciones inherentes a la conflictiva relación que ambos mantienen con el pueblo. A través del examen de las obras de dos de los más reconocidos escritores del período, Leopoldo Lugones y Ricardo Rojas, exploramos las apropiaciones, los desplazamientos y las resignificaciones que promueven, al mismo tiempo, el apogeo y la dispersión de la posición nativista para una literatura regional-nacional.

With the new alliance between writers and the state, which was forged in the literary circuits in Argentine towards the first anniversary of the May revolution, the nativist claims for a regional-national literature, forged in the last two decades of the nineteenth century, became the basis from which to mediate and negotiate the interests of an oligarchic state. This state perceived a threat in the needs of national writers who aspired to acquire a professional autonomy not to be guaranteed by the market alone. It also perceived a threat in the contradictions inherent in both the state s and the writers conflictive relationship with the "people". By examining the works of two of the most renowned writers of the period, Leopoldo Lugones and Ricardo Rojas, we explore the appropriations, displacements and resignifications consistent with the rise and the range of influence of the nativist position.
