Resumen
Critically appropriating pre-existing material is a feature of the essay. Manipulating images of others and its own, Tierra sola as travelogue, archival documentary and "lm essay becomes the place of connection and resonance between images, sounds and events – a discursive system crossed by themes, concepts and values shaped through a staging based on discontinuity, image manipulation, reflection on the filmic device and alternative exploration of heterogeneous expressive resources. In editing, a kind of archive is created that moves away from hegemonic conceptions and incorporates other types of documents: affective, material and bodily records set in hybrid temporalities and played out with tangible and intangible media. Panizza’s documentary can be considered a critical and deconstructive practice of traditional ethnographic cinema, as well as areinvention of ethnography – a shifts towards the poetic that is mindful both of the memory of images and of their ability to displace the gaze from the form to the background, or from the image to the space between images. In Tierra sola, images matter much less for their prescriptive capacity or their truth status than for their latent folds and interstices.
