Indicadores de tecnología y etnodinamia: el análisis de pigmentos en el paraje arqueológico Comallo Arriba, provincia de Río Negro, Argentina

Abstract

Mediante el análisis por difracción de rayos X se buscó determinar si en los pigmentos de las pinturas rupestres de la cueva Comallo I, en la estepa rionegrina, se utilizaron minerales de los afloramientos cercanos. Los resultados indicaron que solo el rojo pudo tener un abastecimiento local. No se localizaron fuentes para los demás colores, por lo que se proponen dos alternativas no excluyentes: los rangos de acción de esas poblaciones variaban desde una escala local a otra regional y/o se recurría a prácticas de intercambio.

X-ray diffraction analysis of samples was employed in an attempt to determine whether minerals from nearby outcrops were used for the pigments of the rock paintings of Comallo I cave, located in the Río Negro steppe. The results showed that only the red pigment could be of local origin. As no sources were identified for the other colors, two alternatives were proposed that are not mutually exclusive: the range of action of those populations varied from the local to the regional scale and/or they practiced exchange.
