El expulsado: la construcción de una nueva figura social

Abstract

Durante 2007, 34.379 personas pasaron por un centro de retención en Francia para ser expulsadas y sólo el 39 por ciento lo fue efectivamente. Los centros de detención para la repatriación de extranjeros se multiplican por toda Europa y se han transformado en el símbolo del giro político mundial en materia de inmigración. Abdelmalek Sayad caracteriza al inmigrante como un individuo que es definido por los otros y por sí mismo mediante una ambigüedad, una doble interpretación, e insistirá en aclarar que el inmigrante es un hecho social total que representa la sociedad entera, siempre y cuando no se lo mutile de esa otra parte, de su complemento unívoco, el emigrante. Hoy en día, la figura del migrante necesita un tercer eje, el del expulsado, porque es también por medio de este que se define la sociedad global.

During 2007, 34379 persons passed by a center of retention in France to be expelled and only 39 per cent were really expelled. The centers of detention for the foreigners’ repatriation are multiplying all over Europe and they have been transformed into symbols of the immigration world political change. Abdelmalek Sayad characterizes the immigrant as an individual who is defined by others and by himself by an ambiguity, a double interpretation, and he will insist on clarifying that the immigrant is a social total fact that represents the entire society, only if he is not mutilated of that other part, of his univocal complement, the emigrant. Nowadays, the figure of the migrant needs the third axis, the expelled one, because it is also by this one that the global society is defined.
