La novela de formación de un historiador

Abstract

El objeto de este artículo es examinar el ensayo autobiográfico de un historiador. El trabajo explora las diferentes dimensiones que presenta el libro de Tulio Halperin Donghi Son memorias, elaborado sobre recuerdos que abarcan los años de niñez y juventud de quien habrá de convertirse en la figura dominante de la historiografía argentina de las últimas cuatro décadas. El análisis presta atención a los aspectos relativos al género presentes en el texto; trata de identificar la Argentina que el autor rememora y a las formas en que la rememora; sigue las vicisitudes del universo familiar de clase media, que hasta el fin de su adolescencia será la principal instancia de socialización de Halperin Donghi. Bajo el foco del examen se halla también el entrelazamiento entre el punto de vista de quien recuerda y el del historiador, que es continuo en el libro, y en el que se detecta una visión desilusionada de la experiencia argentina.

The purpose of this article is to examine the autobiographical essay Son memorias, by Tulio Halperin Donghi. The paper explores different elements of Halperin Donghi’s book, composed on memories that span the years of childhood and youth from who will become the dominant figure in Argentina historiography of the past four decades. The analysis pays attention to generic aspects of the text, tries to identify the Argentina that the author recalls and to the ways in which he recalls; the ups and down of his middle class family, which to the end of adolescence is the main environment of Tulio Donghi Halperin’s socialization. Under the focus of the review is also the entanglement between the point of view of the memories and the point of view of the historian, which is continuous in the book. The scrutiny of this entanglement detects a disillusioned view of the argentine experience.
