Artes visuales y "feminidad" en Buenos Aires durante la década de 1990

Abstract

Las artes visuales de la década de mil nueve noventa en Buenos Aires instalaron la problemática de género como un asunto inherente a la práctica artística. Ello se manifestó a través de la recuperación de procedimientos relativos a un universo "femenino" -como la decoración, la ornamentación, el tejido, el bordado u otro tipo de manualidades domésticas- o por la inclusión de objetos e iconografías que simbolizaban dicho universo -como repasadores, manteles, tortas, entre otras. Asimismo, el lugar asignado a lo femenino en la historia del arte, también fue enunciado por algunas esas obras. Este trabajo indaga dicho fenómeno a través del estudio de diversas obras del período en cuestión. Asimismo, pretende señalar el modo en que el género ha operado a lo largo de la historia del arte estableciendo el valor y la jerarquía de ciertos materiales, procedimientos, y asuntos por sobre otros, configurando, de esta manera, el canon de las Bellas Artes.

The visual arts of the 1990s in Buenos Aires installed the gender problem as an inherent issue in artistic practice. This was manifested through the recovery of procedures related to a "feminine" universe -such as decoration, ornamentation, weaving, embroidery or other types of domestic crafts- or by the inclusion of objects and iconographies that symbolized said universe - such as tea towels, tablecloths, cakes, among others. Likewise, the place assigned to the feminine in the history of art was also enunciated by some of these works. This paper investigates this phenomenon through the study of various works from the period in question. Likewise, it intends to point out the way in which the genre has operated throughout the history of art, establishing the value and hierarchy of certain materials, procedures, and issues over others, thus configuring the canon of Fine Arts. .
