Social and symbolic effects in a judicialized urban conflict: The case of the Matanza - Riachuelo river basin

Abstract

The aim of this article is to present some of the effects of the conflicts thatemerged when the urban public policies designed in the PISA, controlled by thejudicial branch, were implemented in these territories. We stand on the perspective developed by Patrice Melé (2003) and Antonio Azuela de la Cueva (2006) regarding the multidimensional productivity of conflicts. This authors suggest that during urban and environmental conflicts the perspective of the actors are exposed and revealed, and that their strategies have a certain productivity that consolidates or transforms the previous force correlations and, thus, the social structure. This consequences of conflicts have different dimensions and characteristics, generating social, territorial, symbolic, institutional and legal effects, amongst others. We will consider some of them in this chapter.
