Contexto intelectual de surgimiento del americanismo en Argentina (1845-1880)

Abstract

El presente texto explora el trasfondo intelectual de surgimiento de las primeras investigaciones arqueológicas en Argentina, el cual estuvo signado por la oposición sarmientina entre civilización y barbarie. El estudio del período 1845-1880 tiene como fin aportar elementos que permitan comprender los desarrollos interpretativos de la naciente arqueología, así también como ilustrar los distintos planos en los cuales tiene lugar la relación con el otro cultural: axiológico, praxeológico y epistémico. Junto con la desvalorización de las sociedades aborígenes implicada por la oposición mencionada, hubo por otra parte posiciones alternativas, así también como es de destacar una concepción histórica dinámica del pasado indígena. Por último, se identificó también durante el período estudiado una articulación de las valorizaciones de los distintos grupos aborígenes con la competencia científica internacional mediante identificaciones puntuales de los investigadores con las sociedades estudiadas.

This text explores the intellectual background behind the start of the first archaeological investigations in Argentina; the Sarmientian opposition between civilization and barbarity underscored this. The study of the 1845-1880 period results in the establishment of markers that will permit an understanding of the interpretative developments within the nascent archaeology, at the same time as illustrating the different levels at which there was a relation with the cultural other: axiological, praxeological and epistemological. Alongside the devaluation of aboriginal societies due to the previously mentioned opposition, there were alternative positions, including it should be highlighted a vision of a historical dynamism of the indigenous past. Finally, we can also identify in this period an engendering of value of the distinct aboriginal groups for the international scientific community mediated through the particular identifications by investigators with the studied societies.
