Figuras de la alteridad: ensayo a partir de Borges y Chesterton

Abstract

El artículo enfoca, a partir de los cuentos “There are more things” (Borges) y “Cómo conocí al superhombre” (Chesterton), un concepto de alteridad como figura irreductible al tiempo que constitutiva de sí, en un cuestionamiento al sujeto planteado por la modernidad como interioridad inmediata. La presencia del otro en sí mismo es la evidencia de la imposibilidad del cierre, de la apertura radical que marca la subjetividad. En los cuentos, el otro es irrepresentable porque cuestiona el par “humano/ no-humano” desde su propia corporalidad: el concepto de lo humano como universal muestra su contingencia. Asimismo, esos cuerpos-otros tensionan las formas de la narración, al tiempo que muestran los límites de lo verbal allí donde afloran el espanto o la risa.

The article is an approach to a concept of alterity as irreducible and constituent of identity, stating a critical point of view from the modern concept of subject. The presence of the other in oneself is evidence of the impossibility of closure of subjectivity. We work on two short stories -"There are more things" (Borges) and "How I met Superman" (Chesterton)- which show a non-representable figure of "otherness". By questioning the pair "human / non-human", these stories make the concept of human being as an universal show its contingency. Such figures of alterity also challenge narrative forms by showing the limits of language.
