Chicas sueltas y perr@s sin correas: Amor, diplomacia y hospitalidad entre mujeres y canes en algunas prácticas artísticas contemporáneas

Abstract

La asociación entre figuras femeninas y perrunas ha sido una constante en la tradición occidental desde la Grecia antigua. Concebidos por una zootecnia milenaria para la asistencia de la humanidad, los canes han tenido roles opuestos según una diferenciación de género: por un lado, un carácter negativo, un insulto a las mujeres (perra, cagna, bitch: varios idiomas evidencian la naturaleza peyorativa de esta palabra); y por otro, en su declinación masculina, el perro es el ser fiel, auxiliar y subordinado que refuerza la masculinidad de su dueño. Si el idealismo humanista propone la trascendencia de lo humano que requiere el sacrificio de su naturaleza animal irreductible a un juego simbólico entre “amos” y “perros”, el materialismo posthumano apunta a una literalización de los vínculos interespecies entre los cuerpos transformados en “disponibles”. En esta oportunidad analizaré ciertas prácticas artísticas que buscan desatar la correa que anuda a los perros y a las mujeres con el orden andro/antropocentrista de las cosas y explorar las políticas de obligación mutua, diplomacia y hospitalidad que comprometen sus relaciones.

The association between female figures and dogs has been a constant in the Western tradition since ancient Greece. Conceived by an ancient zootechnics for the assistance of humanity, dogs have had opposite roles according to a gender difference: on the one hand, a negative character, an insult to women (bitch, cagna, perra: several languages show the pejorative nature of this word); and on the other, in its masculine declination, the dog is the faithful, auxiliary and subordinate being that reinforces the masculinity of its owner. If humanist idealism proposes the transcendence of the human that requires the sacrifice of its irreducible animal nature to a symbolic game between “masters” and “dogs”, posthuman materialism points to a liberalization of the interspecies links between bodies transformed into “available” bodies. On this occasion I will analyze certain artistic practices that seek to untie the leash that ties dogs and women with the andro/anthropocentric order of things and explore the policies of mutual obligation, diplomacy and hospitality that compromise their relationships.
