Prácticas de disciplinamiento indígena en la isla Martín García hacia fines del siglo XIX

Abstract

La Isla Martín García es, en tiempo y espacio, un lugar capaz de cohesionar diversas historias que, aparencialmente, se sitúan en los márgenes del proceso histórico argentino. Sin embargo, un análisis profundo sobre su múltiple devenir de la isla nos permite ver que el estudio sobre su pasado genera herramientas y conexiones para repensar la historia del Estado Argentino. El siguiente trabajo analiza documentación histórica del Archivo General de la Armada (en adelante AGA) entre 1870 y 1890; momento bisagra entre el período de Organización Nacional (1852-1880) y la cristalización de la matriz Estado- Nación-Territorio que hoy conocemos. Nuestros objetivos apuntan a (1) generar una lectura sistemática y exhaustiva de las fuentes navales referidas a la Isla Martín García en relación con el avance militar del Estado sobre los pueblos indígenas; (2) analizar los modos de circulación de indígenas entre diferentes instituciones disciplinarias; (3) repensar estas prácticas concentracionarias como parte de un proceso genocida de mayor alcance temporal y espacial que fue puesto en acto en el último cuarto del S. XIX.

Martín García Island is, in time and space, a place with diverse histories. From a quick view, this Island appears to be a marginal border for Argentinean historical process, but a deeper analysis would allow us to read further into its past in order to rethink the whole Argentinean National State's history since its beginnings. The following paper analyzes the historical documentation filed between 1870 and 1890 in the Marine's General Archives; this period of time is a hinge between the National Organization period (1852-1880) and the emergence of the Argentinean State as the matrix "State-Nation-Territory" we know today. This statement's goals are to (1) read exhaustibly and systematically all the navy documents regarding the relationship between Martín García Island and the military advance of the State on the indigenous people; (2) analyze the ways of traffic of "Indians" within different disciplinary institutions; (3) rethink the concentrational practices as part of a grater and longer genocidal process which started in the last quarter of the Nineteenth Century.
