Diversidad y evolución de la textura de la pared en guembelítridos (foraminíferos planctónicos) del tránsito Cretácico-Paleógeno

Abstract

Un análisis detallado de los guembelítridos (Guembelitria, Palaeoglobigerina, Parvularugoglobigerina, Chiloguembelitria?, Woodringina, Postrugoglobigerina? y Globoconusa) del tránsito Cretácico-Paleógeno (K-Pg) indica una alta variabilidad y diversidad en sus texturas de pared, lo que puede tener importantes implicaciones taxonómicas y filogenéticas. Se han reconocido doce texturas de pared, cuatro de ellas en el Maastrichtiense terminal y al menos diez en el Daniense basal. La textura de pared con poros en túmulo, que predominó durante el Maastrichtiense terminal, desapareció progresivamente tras el límite K/Pg, mientras que una diversificación en el Daniense basal dio origen a texturas de pared lisas, rugosas y finalmente pustuladas.

A detailed analysis of the guembelitriids (Guembelitria, Palaeoglobigerina, Parvularugoglobigerina, Chiloguembelitria?, Woodringina, Postrugoglobigerina? and Globoconusa) across the Cretaceous-Paleogene (K-Pg) transition reveals a high variability and diversity of their wall textures, which may have significant taxonomic and phylogenetic implications. Twelve wall texture types have been recognized, four of them in the uppermost Maastrichtian and ten, at least, in the basal Danian. The pore-mounded wall texture which predominated during the latest Maastrichtian disappeared progressively after the K/Pg boundary, whereas a diversification in the earliest Danian gave origin to the smooth, rugose and finally pustulate wall textures.
