Escribiendo el epitafio: el diario Clarín en la antesala del golpe de Estado de 1976

Abstract

El artículo analiza las posiciones editoriales del diario Clarín en los momentos previos al golpe de estado de 1976, haciendo principal hincapie en la revisión del rol del matutino dentro del proceso de erosión de la situación política y socioeconómica durante el gobierno peronista y frente a la voluntad golpista de las Fuerzas Armadas y de otros sectores de la sociedad civil ya desembozada hacia finales de 1975 y principios de 1976.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the editorial position of Clarin, a leading national newspaper during the study period, in relation to the military coup of 24 March 1976 and the process of political and economic destabilization that functioned as a preamble to this event. This paper will analyze Clarin´s editorials against the collapse of the Peronist government, as well as its ideological foundations that legitimated the military intervention. During the second half of 1975, Clarin deepened the admonitory tone with which the Peronist administration was judged, broadening its criticism from the economic to other political and institutional issues, making the military takeover as an "inevitable" end as well as a consequence for the mistakes of all institutional actors of the republic. Finally, this work briefly highlights some other features of the newspaper, describing the situation that led to the most tragic period of the contemporary history of Argentina.
