Corps et métamorphose dans une société amérindienne: Les Toba du Grand Chaco

Abstract

Dans ce travail, nous analyserons les caractéristiques des êtres non humains chez les Toba (Qom) du Gran Chaco sud-américain afin de rendre compte du caractère métamorphique du corps et des relations sensorielles qu’ils tissent avec les humains. Nous montrerons que, par leur vie sociale et par la possession de quelques aptitudes corporelles spécifiques, les non-humains sont considérés comme des personnes. Pourtant, l’analyse de certaines capacités corporelles nous permettra de signaler des différences significatives que les Toba établissent avec les non-humains.

In this text we analyze the characteristics of nonhuman beings among the Toba (Qom) people of the Grand Chaco. The aim is to study the metamorphic character of the body and the sensorial relations between humans and nonhumans. We will show that non-human beings are considered by humans as persons because of their social life and of the possession of some bodily aptitudes. We also show some characteristics of the nonhuman body that create important differences with the human body.
