Ch´ullpa y sociedades de pastores en los Andes centrales y meridionales (siglos XIX y XX): una propuesta

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es indagar las posibilidades comparativas entre dos conjuntos de datos: por un lado, las estructuras arqueológicas denominadas ch´ullpa en los Andes centrales y meridionales y, por el otro, la presencia de algún indicio de actividad pastoril en las que ellas han sido identifi cadas. Para logar este propósito se propone un balance de la bibliografía de viajeros y arqueólogos de los siglos XIX y XX. Al mismo tiempo, se argumentará que algunas de las conclusiones del balance precedente deben ser consideradas a la luz de la etnografía contemporánea focalizada en el estudio de estas mismas poblaciones. En este sentido, se aspira a explorar la relación sociedad y naturaleza a través de la eventual articulación de un espacio social en los Andes transitado por pastores y signado por ch´ullpa.

The main purpose of the paper is to analyze the comparative possibilities between two different sets of data: on the one hand, the archaeological structures known as ch´ullpa in the Central and Southern Andes; on the other hand, any kind of indication about the presence of pastoralism under the areas in which ch´ullpa has been found. To accomplish this goal the paper proposes the review of the literature by relevant travelers and archeologists during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. At the same time, it argues that some of the conclusions of this review should be considered under the light shed by the contemporary ethnography that focuses on these populations. Accordingly, this paper explores the relationship between society and nature through the possible articulation of a social space at the Andes crossed by shepherds and marked by ch´ullpa.
