Observaciones sobre la nidificación de Rhinocricus duvernoyi (Karsch 1881) (Diplopoda: Spirobolida: Rhinocricidae) en el Paisaje Natural Protegido Escaleras de Jaruco-Tapaste-Chech

Abstract

Rhinocricus duvernoyi (Karsch 1881) es un diplópodo endémico de Cuba que habita en el occidente del archipiélago, en localidades como el Paisaje Natural Protegido Escaleras de Jaruco-Tapaste-Cheche, lugar en el que se realizó el estudio. Se visitó de manera periódica de abril a septiembre durante 5 años. En condiciones de campo se observaron sitios de puesta y se contó el número de huevos de cada uno; en el laboratorio se midieron y se fotografiaron los huevos recolectados. Los huevos son esféricos, blancos, de 1,9 mm de diámetro, y se encuentran vinculados a las heces de la misma especie. La puesta de huevos se realiza de forma gregaria.

Rhinocricus duvernoyi (Karsch 1881) is an endemic diplopod from Cuba that lives in the west of the archipelago, in micro-localities like the Escaleras de Jaruco-Tapaste-Cheche Protected Natural Landscape, the place where the study was carried out. The place was visited periodically from April to September for 5 years. In the field, laying sites were observed and the number of eggs from each site was counted; in the laboratory eggs were measured and photographed. The eggs are spherical, white, 1.9 mm in diameter, and are associated with the feces of the same species. The laying of eggs takes place in groups of individuals.
