La evangelización jesuítica en el Valle Calchaquí: Hacia la idealización de un nuevo hábitat jesuítico-calchaquí

Abstract

Este trabajo pretende señalar la ocupación del suelo en un amplio sector delnoroeste argentino habitado por los calchaquíes, en el momento en que irrumpen los jesuitasen el sector. Lo hicieron a través de sus tradicionales misiones volantes, donde las etnias delValle tomaron una posición dubitativa frente a la avanzada evangelizadora, resaltando elparticular recibimiento que tienen los hijos de Ignacio en sus tierras. Si bien los indiosrechazan las nuevas ideas religiosas, terminaron aceptando a los jesuitas como un refugiopara evitar conflagraciones con los conquistadores. Mientras que los jesuitas, en una actitudpermisiva, priorizaron salvar vidas con un bautismo que ante todo los defendía de la esclavitudo la muerte. En medio de este contexto los religiosos fueron ocupando y levantando espaciospropios para construir una salvación que, además de incluir sus almas, contradecía el sistemaimperante, por tanto no quedaban muchas alternativas. Pero el clima de ambición e intoleranciahispana produjo tres grandes enfrentamientos armados que terminaron rompiendo los avanceslogrados al crearse dos incipientes reducciones. Fue tiempo en que la esperanza se transformóen tragedia.

This paper tries to show the land use in a wide sector of northwestern Argentinainhabited by calchaquíes, at the time that break the Jesuits in the sector. They did so throughtheir traditional flying missions, where the ethnic groups in the Valley took a stand againstthe advanced hesitant evangelizing, highlighting the particular reception with the children ofIgnacio on their land. While the Indians reject the new religious ideas, ended up acceptingthe Jesuits as a refuge to avoid conflagrations with the conquerors. While the Jesuits, in apermissive attitude, they prioritized saving lives with a baptism which primarily defendedfrom slavery or death. Amidst this context of religious spaces were occupied and liftingthemselves to build a salvation which also include their souls, contradicted the prevailingsystem, so there were many alternatives. But the climate of greed and intolerance producedthree major Hispanic fighting ended breaking progress with the creation of two incipientreductions. It was time when hope turned into tragedy.
