Resumen
A new Acaulon species from Argentina has a small, blunt apiculus on the spheric capsule, which is rare in other species of the genus. This species is considered an ancient relic retaining this evidence of its ancestral past. Although definitely an Acaulon by several distinctive traits, other unique features of the gametophyte imply it is a much modified descendant as part of a basal branch terminating with the even more reduced A. uleanum.
