Doble κατήχησις en la hagiografía. Relator y público

Abstract

The method of transmission of the virtues and miracles made by a saint is produced verbally by a witness or a beneficiary, who transmits the story to someone who writes it. This hagiographer pretends that the listener or reader benefits from this narration, but also he pretends that the listener/ reader becomes in turn a diffuser of the saint’s goodness by means of the ancient method of the κατήχησις. Examples are given from Life and miracles of Cosmas and Damian and from Life of Symeon Stylites the jounger.
