Colombia y los nombres de lo político: Populismo, Violencia(s) y gaitanismo

Abstract

La Violencia remite a la denominación que la historiografía colombiana le ha dado al período posterior al asesinato del político liberal Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, el 9 de abril de 1948. Pero la violencia también refiere a un concepto que polemiza los debates sobre la experiencia histórica colombiana desde mediados de los años cuarenta hasta nuestros días. Durante los años setenta y ochenta este concepto comenzó a yuxtaponerse a la pregunta por el populismo en Colombia. ¿Qué tipo de disputas y articulaciones se produjeron en el campo político-intelectual entre el concepto de populismo y el de la(s) Violencia(s)? ¿Qué modalidades asumió la representación de la figura del pueblo? y ¿cómo se resignificó el gaitanismo durante estos años? Son algunas de las preguntas que orientarán el siguiente análisis. Para ello, nos centraremos en el abordaje de tres estudios histórico-sociológicos pioneros en los que las representaciones sobre la(s) Violencia(s), el populismo y el gaitanismo se imbricaron para pensar formas de constitución de lo político.

The Violence refers to a name that colombian historiography has given to the period after the assassination of a liberal politician Jorge Eliécer Gaitán on 9 April 1948. But violence also relates to a concept which involves debates about the colombian historical experience since the mid-forties to the present day. During the seventies and eighties this concept began to be juxtaposed to the question of populism in Colombia. What kind of disputes and articulations occurred in the political and intellectual field between the notion of populism and the “Violence(s)”? Which modalities assumed the representation of the figure of the people? And how the “gaitanismo” was resignified during these years? Those are some of the questions that will guide the following analysis. To do this, we will focus on the approach of three pioneers sociological and historical studies in which the representations of the Violence(s), populism and gaitanismo were imbricated to think forms of constitution of “the political”.
