Relatos del no-cuidado

Abstract

Este texto procura reflexionar teóricamente acerca de algunas de las condiciones por las cuales la vocación hacia el cuidado se convierte en negligencia, descuido, dolor y muerte. Para ello consideramos las asimetrías presentes en las relaciones sociales, puestas de manifiesto en la distribución social del conocimiento como en el ejercicio del poder. En el cuidado del pediatra, del pastor bautista y de los padres hacia sus hijos, hallamos manifestaciones que identificamos como patologías del cuidado, a través de narraciones obtenidas en diversos contextos de investigación, a partir de fuentes primarias y secundarias, dando cuenta de la responsabilidad que tienen estos actores en la esfera pública cuando asumen un rol de cuidadores, sea en el marco de un espacio institucional como familiar. Sus expresiones además remiten a las tres fuentes discursivas fundantes de la vida moderna como son el pensamiento científico, el religioso y el de la vida cotidiana, e ilustran los distintos modos de conocer que coexisten en la vida moderna.

This paper aims at promoting theoretical reflection on some of the conditions under which the vocation to care about others becomes negligence, carelessness, pain and death. To this end, we consider the asymmetries in social relations, evinced by both the social distribution of knowledge and the exercise of power. In the care of pediatricians, Baptist pastors and parents taking care of their children, we find manifestations we identify as pathologies of care, through narratives obtained from primary and secondary sources in different research contexts. These narratives reveal the responsibility of these actors in the public sphere when they take the role of caregivers, whether in the context of an institutional space or within a family. Their verbalizations also refer to the three types of knowledge —scientific, religious and everyday-life— which are foundational discursive sources of modern life. Likewise, they illustrate the different types of knowledge that coexist in modern life.
