Historia de la ciencia argentina en la revista Mundo Atómico (1950- 1955)

Abstract

Entre 1950 y 1955 se editó en la Argentina la revista Mundo Atómico, publicación de filiación peronista dedicada a la difusión de la ciencia y la tecnología y a la promoción de la energía atómica. A lo largo de sus veintitrés ejemplares, la revista difundió el lema acerca de “una ciencia al servicio del pueblo” y sostuvo la necesidad de que los científicos fueran realizadores efectivos de sus proyectos e investigadores útiles a las necesidades de la sociedad y del país. Tanto en la sección “Precursores de la Ciencia Nacional” como en algunas notas editoriales y artículos de la revista se conmemoró y reivindicó la vida y la obra de distintas figuras de la actividad científica argentina (Francisco Muñiz, Eduardo Holmberg, Francisco P. Moreno). Este trabajo observa las secciones de Mundo Atómico dedicadas a la historia de la ciencia e indaga el modo en que se construyen las biografías. Anticipamos que la recuperación de estas figuras ilustra y ejemplifica ciertos rasgos del perfil de científico que Mundo Atómico propone y despliega en sus notas editoriales.

From 1950 to 1955, Mundo Atómico magazine was published in Argentina, a journal with Peronist attachments devoted to the diffusion of science and technology and the promotion of nuclear energy. Throughout its twenty-three issues, the magazine promoted its motto “a science to the service of the people” and supported the need that scientists were effective producers of their projects and useful researchers of their society’s and country’s necessities. In the section “Forefathers of National Science” as well as in some editorials and articles of the journal, the lives and works of different figures of the Argentine scientific activity (Francisco Muñiz, Eduardo Holmberg, Francisco P. Moreno) were commemorated and shown in a new light. This paper focuses on those sections of Mundo Atómico devoted to the history of science and looks into the way biographies are constructed. We anticipate that the recovery of these figures illustrates and exemplifies the profile of the scientist that this magazine proposes and unfolds in its editorials.
